Lochaber Rotary Club welcomed the governor of the 50-club West of Scotland District to its business lunch meeting on 23 August.
DG Gary Louttit, who is a member of the Renfrew Rotary Club, thanked the Lochaber club for its hearty welcome and stressed that the Rotary Theme for this year of   “Making a Difference” should be kept at the forefront of our plans and work for this year, and that we WILL continue to make a difference in our communities and in the world at large.

Gary said: “We should be proud of what we do as Rotarians, no matter how each of us chooses to serve, we do it because we know our service makes a difference to others, however large or small and whether locally or internationally”.  Gary recalled that Rotary International President Ian Riseley, had produced a very achievable Presidential Citation, which sets out 3 main goals of firstly, supporting and strengthening local Rotary clubs; secondly, focussing on humanitarian service including finally eradicating polio; and lastly, enhancing Rotary’s public image and awareness. Gary endorsed the point made by Assistant Governor Andy McDonald on his recent visit to Fort William that this could be achieved in part by using Rotary Club Central regularly to record all our good work and service. Gary added: “If you use those 3 main goals as a guide this year your club will certainly Make a Difference“.

Gary also reinforced his invitation to club members to attend the District Conference on Saturday 30 September and Sunday 1 October. An interesting selection of speakers and charities have been lined up to tell delegates what they are doing, including our own Rotarians, along with some great entertainment.  In closing, Gary said: “I am also looking for support from all of our Clubs and members this year, to tackle a District-wide project together, for the charity ‘Rise Against Hunger’, which will feed 100,000 people and allow us to tick all 3 of the main goals, together. I hope we can all get together on this and show our communities and the world that Rotary really is making a difference!”

Club President Donald McCorkindale thanked Gary for his well-presented and motivational talk, and club members responded with warm applause.
